I got some problems with my old nvidia card (fx5200) under ubuntu 10.10 because tv-out was always black and white (I already use the legacy nvidia driver because noveau always flickers every 12s). What is more the control panel crashes on all tv options, thus I can't configure it properly through the gui.

Here is what I added to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Add this to the section "device"

    Option "TVOutFormat" "Composite" #or SVIDEO or RGB
    Option "TVStandard" "PAL-G"

Here are some options for the settings program to apply at session time.

Update

This tutorial has stopped working for me but now I got some hints from other readers of my blog. It seems that one has to load the proper firmware first, but I will investigate this further.

Today I want to show you how you can grab your records from a Sony HiMD Recorder with usb interface (e.g. MZ-NH700) under Ubuntu Linux (Intrepid). There is only one project which deals with this topic, named
linux-minidisc. Sadly this is not yet in any repository, so we have to compile it by ourself. First of all you need to install all needed libraries

sudo apt-get install git-core build-essential automake autoconf gcc libqt4-dev libglib2.0-dev libmad0-dev

Just installed kdenlive on Ubuntu 8.10 for some videocutting, but was not functional. This is the same thing since at least 8.04. The error may look like this:

Could not find 'drkonqi' executable.

Dr. Konqi is a crash window for kde application, so this is not the reason. Just install these libraries and it should work:

sudo apt-get install libxcb-composite0 libxcb1-dbg libxcb1-dev

If you installed the sun-jdk from the repository and you want to upgrade to the lastest jdk-version, you have to do this by hand. This is quite interessting in case of troubles with GUI-Performance or other bugs, like the Swing-GTK-Combobox-Bug, which was fixed in 1.6 update 13.
